The 70th Anniversary of Shanghai Ceramic Society and Series of Academic Seminars, which were sponsored by Shanghai Ceramic Society and organized by Shanghai Institute of Ceramics Chinese Academy of Sciences, were held on Dec. 14th, 2018 in Jiading, Shanghai. The president of Shanghai Ceramic Society, director of Shanghai Institute of Ceramics Chinese Academy of Sciences Mr. Song Lixin presided over the anniversary meeting and delivered a welcome address. The member of the party group of Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, deputy inspector Mr. Huang Xinghua, the Vice President and Secretary General of Chinese Ceramic Society Mr. Jin Zhanping and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and International Academy of Ceramics Mr. Jiang Dongliang attended the meeting and expressed their congratulations. Director of State Key Laboratory of Crystal Materials, Shandong University Professor Tao Xutang, President of Shanghai Ceramics Association, Deputy Director of Shanghai Institute of Ceramics Chinese Academy of Sciences Research Fellow Wang Dong, Director of State Key Laboratory of High Performance Ceramics and Ultrastructure Chinese Academy of Sciences, President of both eighth and ninth sessions of Shanghai Ceramic Society Research Fellow Chen Lidong were also invited to participate in the meeting. Over 400 representatives in total including the council members, former leaders, fellow members of SCS and the leaders, experts, scholars, teachers and students from enterprises, research institutes and universities attended the meeting.
Having reviewed the development history of Shanghai Ceramic Society, on behalf of Shanghai Ceramic Society and Shanghai Institute of Ceramics Chinese Academy of Sciences, President Song Lixin expressed heartfelt thanks to all the leaders, experts and members of SCS who have been supporting and caring the Shanghai Ceramic Society for a long time. Shanghai Ceramic Society was founded in 1948 which was like a bond to unite the old generation of ceramic experts to meet the liberation of China. Since then the SCS has taken the responsibility for promoting the development and progress of this professional field by its technical services. The SCS keeps pace with the social development of China. Having 70 years experienced all the tests at various historical stages and 40 years reform and opening up period, as an influential social organizations of science and technology, the SCS always forges ahead, closely unites and guides the scientific and technological personnel to promote academic communication, popularization of sciences, disciplinary research, standard establishment, technical service, appraisement of sci-tech achievements, growth of scientific and technological talents and the commercialization of research findings, etc. and a great number of tremendous achievements have been made. It is expected that regarding the 70th anniversary as a new starting point, the SCS will keep putting great efforts to promote the development of Shanghai Ceramic Industry and make greater and more substantial contributions.
The award ceremony of the contribution to science popularization and creation award was held at the 70th anniversary of the society. The Director of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Shanghai University of Applied Technology, the director of Popular Science Committee of SCS Mr. Xu Jiayao reviewed the recent achievements of popularization of ceramics and presided over the award ceremony.
The ceramic experts at home and abroad were invited to attend the series of academic seminars to discuss the front status, existing problems and development tendency of the ceramic industry so as to bring us new ideas and enlightenment. The academician Liu Changsheng from East China University of Science and Technology presided over the seminar and presented his specially invited report “Research and development of new materials supporting the new technologies of orthopedic treatments”; The professor Huang Yunhui from Tongji University and the research fellow Chen Lidong from Shanghai Institute of Ceramics Chinese Academy of Sciences were invited to present their research reports “Research on materials and systems of advanced secondary batteries" and “Thermoelectric materials and application technology", respectively. At the sub-forum there were 30 invited reports and 34 oral reports presented at 6 different conference halls that focused on synthetic crystals, glasses, furnace and equipment, transparent advanced ceramics, biomaterial and green ecological building materials, etc. and an energetic discussion and communication was carried out.
