The award ceremony for inorganic material popular science anthology Ⅳ was held by SCS on May 12th, 2017. The vice president of SCS Professor Ning Wei, the director of popular science committee of SCS Professor Xu Jiayao, the secretary general of SCS Madam Gu Zhonghua and teachers from related group members of SCS, representatives of graduated students and the staff of SCS attended the award ceremony.

Professor Ning Wei introduced the situation of collection, review and edit for the popular science anthology Ⅳ. Under the guidance of popular science committee and the organizer Furnace and Equipment Committee, with the support by all professional committees of SCS, through the careful revision and selection, this issue of anthology collected 56 articles in all. Due to the fierce competition, finally, after discussion the committee decided to increase the selection of outstanding articles and set 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes and 9 third prizes.

In order to popularize and spread the knowledge of inorganic materials the SCS organizes the “SCS cup” to solicit popular science articles of inorganic materials twice a year. Since 2010 total of four anthologies have been published. The philosophy of popular science known as “Specialists and experts leading, students and public participating” was established by SCS. In 2015 the activity of soliciting inorganic material popular science by SCS won the title of "Demonstration project of promoting citizen’s scientific quality in Shanghai". For current award the SCS specially set popular science contribution award to commend the popular science volunteers for years of their hard work and outstanding contributions.

At the award ceremony professor Xu Jiayao presented his report titled as “Some ideas for popular science work”. Based on the view, content, form and shearing of popular science, his consideration for the work of popular science was presented to the participants. Through taking the vice director of Hongkong City University Mr. Lǘ Jian as an example, the influence of popular science work on social publics was demonstrated vividly. He also presented his philosophy of popular science economy and shearing popular science and hoped that through joint efforts the work of popular science could be prosperous so as to contribute for improving citizenship literacy
