The “16th International Symposium on Solid Ion”(SSI-16) sponsored by Shanghai Institute of Ceramics Chinese Academy of Sciences and organized by Shanghai Branch of Chinese Solid Ion Society and Shanghai Ceramic Society was held in Shanghai on July 2nd, 2007. Over 460 overseas participants coming from more than 30 countries and districts and over 120 domestic participants coming from all direction of China attended this symposium. International Symposium on Solid Ion is the most effective international academic symposium in this field. This symposium (SSI-16) focused on new chemical energy resources and related academic questions. It was of great significance on promoting new energy resource such as fuel cell and lithium ion cell etc. SSI-16 was the first large symposium in China which was organized by international organization.
At the opening ceremony on July 2nd, Director of Shanghai Institute of Ceramics Chinese Academy of Sciences Mr. Luo Hongjie, Chairman of this symposium Professor Minami from Osaka University, former president of International Solid Ion Society Dr. S. C. Singhal from U.S. and present president Professor K. Funkel made their welcoming speech. More than 290 research papers and around 400 posters were presented in 4 conference places, respectively.
Moreover, there was a small exhibition during this symposium where over 10 exhibitors demonstrated their achievements. This symposium closed on July 6th, 2007. Shanghai Ceramic Society has won excellent organization prize issued by International Solid Ion Society.
