The 8th Congress of Shanghai Science and Technology Association was held on Nov. 21～23, 2006 in Shanghai. A preparatory meeting was held in the afternoon of Nov. 21st at Meeting Hall of Shanghai Science and Technology Association and then on Nov.22nd The 8th Congress of Shanghai Science and Technology Association was formally opened at auditorium in Party School of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee. There were over 1000 formal representatives and nonvoting representatives attending this meeting, there 5 formal representatives were sent by our Society.

At opening ceremony seated in the front row on the rostrum were leaders of Chinese Science and Technology Association, Educational Ministry, Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, Shanghai Municipal Government. Standing Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, Mayer of Shanghai Mr. Han Zheng presented an important opening address. Vice Chairman of Chinese Science and Technology Association Madam Deng Nan made an important speech. Chairman of Shanghai Federation of Trade Union Mr. Chen Hao and Vice Chairman of Shanghai Science and Technology Association Academician Chen Kaixian also made address in this Congress. Chairman of 7th Council of Shanghai Science and Technology Association Mr. Shen Wenqing presented a working report on behalf of 7th Council. A new session of Council was determined by vote. The President of Shanghai Ceramic Society, deputy Director of Shanghai Institute of Ceramics Chinese Academy of Sciences Prof. Chen Lidong was also elected as a member of 8th Council of Shanghai Science and Technology Association.

Discussion and interchange were carried out in 25 groups during this Congress. At closing ceremony Vice Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee Madam Yin yicui made an important closing speech.
