※The Board Meeting of Directors was held on 30th , Nov. 2005. The main topic of this meeting was to summarize Society's work in 2005 and to prepare to vote the next Board of Directors in the following year.

※National Glass-working Technology Symposium was held on Nov. 15～17th, 2005 in Baoying County, Jiangsu Province. There were 146 specialists and enterprise representatives attending this symposium, which was presided over by Mr. Zhao chengji — the headman of glass working group of Ordinary Inorganic Materials Committee of Shanghai Ceramic Society. The Secretary-General Mr. Zhang Shen and the head of Baoying County Mr. Wang Yeming also took part in this symposium and made their presentation. Eight specialists including Mr.Cai Chengliang from Lanzhou University, Mr. Zhao Chengji from Shanghai Kangda Glass Device Research Institute presented their technical reports.

 

※The 6th X-ray Fluorescence Spectra Symposium of China sponsored by Shanghai Institute of Ceramics Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Ceramic Society was held in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province on 25～28th, October, 2005. More than 90 participants including 15% foreign specialists attended this symposium. There were 56 research reports being arranged to be presented to this symposium and all the accepted research reports by this meeting have been published in Supplementary Issue of <Physical and Chemical Examination>. The participants all recognized this symposium as a high level academic conference.

※The first National Mortar Symposium was held at Tongji University on October 10th, 2005 in Shanghai. About 300 representatives coming from research institutes, universities, Chinese and foreign invested enterprises, and foreign research institutes took part in this symposium. Not only special technical reports were represented to this meeting, also a visitation to related companies was arranged by this 3 days' meeting which was sponsored by Architectural Society of China, Chinese Ceramic Society and Shanghai Ceramic Society and organized by Tongji University and China Academy of Build Research.

※October 21st of this year was the 60th anniversary of the founding of Chinese Ceramic Society. The Chinese Ceramic Society held a commemorative meeting in Beijing, in which about 500 representatives coming from all around of China participated. Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Mr. Gan Fuxi, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Mr. Chen Liquan, The Chairman of American Ceramic Society, The Chairman of Australia Ceramic Association, and Vice Director of Board of Japanese Ceramic Association presented their academic report to this meeting respectively.

A technical Meeting on application of natural gas in glass and ceramic furnaces

The Meeting on application of natural gas in glass and ceramic furnaces sponsored by Shanghai Ceramic Society and organized by Material College of Dong Hua University was held from 21st to 23rd, September of 2005 at Material College of Dong Hua University. More than 100 participants from different enterprises, design institutes, universities and research institutes located in Hong Kong, Guangdong, Sichuan, Henan, Shanxi, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hebei, Shangdong, and Shanghai participated in this forum.

At the first day of this Meeting, Secretary-general of Shanghai Ceramic Society and the Direct of Material College of Dong Hua University gave their opening addresses, and then President of Shanghai Engineer Society, Professor of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Mr. Wen Shilie gave a lecture titled as “The energy situation in China and application of natural gas”, in which many critical energy problems in China and development of new energy sources as well as use of natural gas were discussed in detail. The Director of Shanghai Energy Standard Commission, Secretary-general of Energy-saving Products Judging Committee, Senior Engineer, Mr. Xie Zhonghua delivered a presentation on energy sources and task on energy saving. Director of Furnace Committee of Shanghai Ceramic Society, Professor Sun Chengxu delivered a report focused on flame of natural gas, characteristics of natural gas and its application.

Mr. Shoveller from Laidlaw Drew in U.K. introduced some new products and new techniques relating to use of natural gas. General Manager of Chongqing Laifer Engineering Co., Senior engineer, Mr. Chen Xingxiao and General Manager of Tiansheng Furnace Co., Mr. Chen Jianhong passed their experience on application of natural gas and described the problems in application to glass and ceramic furnaces and discussed their solutions as well.

At the second day of this Meeting ，Vice Director of Chinese City Gas Society, Professor Jiang Zhenghou presented a lecture “Combustion characteristics, equipment, and technology”, and replied audiences’ questions. Then the Director of Glass Research Centre in Material College of Dong Hua University Vice Professor Ning Wei analyzed the application and prospect of gas-electric melting glass furnace and described practical experience for natural gas furnaces and natural gas combined with electrical melting glass furnaces.

In the afternoon, the participants visited Shanghai Glass works. They clearly understood the energy situation and our responsibilities nowadays. They all considered that this meeting was a high level, practical, promotional, active and positive forum, which promoted technical interchange, encouraged combination of research with practice and offered a good opportunity for mutual learning and cooperation.

Technical interchange for application technique of Infrared moisture tester on glass and ceramic production line

Technical interchange for application of infrared moisture tester on glass and ceramic production line sponsored by Shanghai Ceramic Society and Shanghai Yinglei Infrared Tester Co., Ltd. was carried out on 15th, September of 2005 in Shanghai. About 30 persons including technical and managerial staff of glass material and ceramic products manufacturers in Shanghai and professors and experts of universities and research institutes took part in this activity.

At first, the general manager of Shanghai Yinglei Infrared Tester Co., Ltd. Mr. Zhou Yanshu presented a technical report, in which he briefly introduced the principle, characteristics, and technical specification of the moisture testers, as well as their application in different industrial fields. These testers are intelligent and suitable for on-line moisture test and static moisture test in laboratory, so that they are able to be used widely in deferent fields.

Finally, all the participants visited Shanghai Sheet Glass Factory, there they witnessed moisture testing process on silica sand conveying belt. Some participants even made some useful proposals about the position of the tester and automatic testing control.

This technical interchange activity promotes communication between enterprises and ceramic society; moreover, it is beneficial for quality control and profit of manufacturers.

2005 International Exhibition on advanced Inorganic Materials Technology & equipment held in Shanghai

“2005 International Exhibition on advanced Inorganic Materials Technology & equipment ” sponsored by Shanghai Ceramic Society and Shanghai Technology Convention & Exhibition Co., Ltd and supported by Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, KICET, Japan Fine Ceramics Centre, etc. and co-sponsored by Shanghai Ceramics Association, Jiangxi Ceramic Society, Jiangsu Ceramic Society, Fujian Ceramic Society, etc. concurrent with “2005 China International Powder/Bulk Conference & exhibition” and “2005 China International Nano Technology and application Exhibition & Symposium” was held at Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai on 13 ~ 15, June, 2005.

A brief but enthusiastic opening ceremony was carried out at exhibition site in the morning on June 13 th . More than 400 companies at home and abroad participated in this exhibition. At the first day of this exhibition a so large continuous stream of visitors came to the exhibition that many booths were crowded with visitors and the exhibitors couldn't attend to them all. According to statistic data provided by the organizers there were more 4500 professional visitors visited this exhibition

Brief news on Korea Fine Ceramics Delegation

A 30-person Korea Fine Ceramics Delegation paid a visit to Shanghai Institute of Ceramics of Chinese Academy of Sciences in the morning of June the 15 th , 2005. This delegation arrived in Shanghai on June the 12 th specially for visit to “2005 International Exhibition on advanced Inorganic Materials Technology & equipment” and “2005 China International Powder/Bulk Conference & Exhibition”. The members of this delegation were composed of researchers from advanced ceramics manufactories in Korea, National Research Institute of Ceramic Technology, corresponding departments of material science of various universities, and research institutes of inorganic materials in Korea

"16th China International Glass Industrial Technology an Machinery Exhibition" was be held at Shanghai New International Expo Center by The Chinese Ceramic Society and The Shanghai Ceramic Society.

This exhibition is the largest international glass exhibition in Asia of the most influential international glass exhibition in the world. The number of exhibitors are about 628 ( 208 exhibitors at abroad ), and the exhibition area reached 30000 square meters.
